Browsing the CNN website, I stumbled upon this article that reports that a large percentage of college students don’t believe that a romantic relationship is “official” until it’s broadcasted on Facebook.
Does the person make Facebook, or does Facebook make the person? Really.

Actually, I’d have to agree with the article. You’re not really in a relationship unless you’re ready to broadcast it in your social networks. Then you get bombarded with “OMG WHO IS HE?!?!” posts without really thinking about how the guy will see the posts on your wall -_-
But yes, I can see how a relationship isn’t official until it’s posted on Facebook. Otherwise you may just be horsing about. Or, more likely, it’s your beau/belle’s way of asking you to make it official without having to suffer from face-to-face humiliation. You know, I’m going to wait for my beau to request it and then SHOOT IT DOWN.
But it’s even weirder to have an “It’s Complicated” relationship while noting who you’re in a complicated relationship with.
/long-winded.

*nod* I see your point. But what about those people without Facebook? Does the fact that they don’t have it make their relationships less real than those with Facebook? And broadcasting your relationship status to your social networks doesn’t really necessarily require Facebook… not really.
